Refreshments of the Roaring ’20s
Get jazzed about these Prohibition-era cocktails
Volstead Fizz
With an ironic name choice (the Volstead Act is more commonly known as the National Prohibition Act), this fizz-style drink is anything but dry.
Ingredients
1½ oz Shine Vodka
¾ oz fresh lime juice
¾ oz simple syrup
1 egg white (or 2 tbsp aquafaba for a vegan version)
2 oz soda water
Lime twist, for garnish
Steps
Combine Shine Vodka, lime juice, simple syrup, and egg white (or aquafaba) in a shaker.
Dry shake (without ice) to emulsify the ingredients.
Add ice and shake again until frothy and chilled.
Strain into a highball or rocks glass.
Top with soda water and garnish with a lime twist.
Vodka Mary Pickford
A reimagined Mary Pickford that highlights Shine Vodka’s versatility while keeping the cocktail’s fruity, tropical charm intact.
Ingredients
2 oz Shine Vodka
1 oz fresh pineapple juice
¼ oz grenadine (we recommend Portland Syrups)
¼ oz maraschino liqueur
A cherry or pineapple wedge, for garnish
Steps
Combine Shine Vodka, pineapple juice, grenadine, and maraschino liqueur in an ice-filled shaker.
Shake until well-chilled.
Strain into a chilled coupe or martini glass, then garnish with a cherry or pineapple wedge.
Golden Bee’s Knees
A brighter take on the Prohibition-era classic, this version swaps out gin for Shine Vodka, which lets the honey flavor shine.
Ingredients
2 oz Shine Vodka
¾ oz fresh lemon juice
½ oz honey syrup (recipe below)
Lemon twist, for garnish
Steps
In a shaker filled with ice, combine Shine Vodka, lemon juice, and honey syrup.
Shake vigorously until thoroughly frosty.
Strain into a martini glass and garnish with lemon twist.
HONEY SYRUP RECIPE
Heat equal amounts of honey and water in a saucepan, stirring until the honey is dissolved (try Portland Bee Co.’s Oregon Superbloom Honey).
Let the syrup cool, use as needed, then refrigerate any leftover.
The Last Weird
Like Portland, we’re keeping it weird with this interpretation of The Last Word, a Prohibition-era favorite.
Ingredients
¾ oz Shine Vodka
¾ oz Green Chartreuse or similar herbal liqueur *
